Your safety

Speaking about censorship can feel risky — a producer, a broadcaster, a funder may be involved. This page explains, plainly, what happens to your testimony, who can see it, where it is stored, what the AI does with it, and how to have it erased. No small print.

You decide what is public

At the end of the form you choose: Say it loud (an anonymised summary is published) or Keep it quiet (nothing is ever published, but your case is counted).

Your name is never published

Leaving your name and email is optional. If you do, they are stored apart from your testimony and only used by the FSE to reach you.

You can withdraw at any time

One email to the FSE and your testimony, or your contact details, are deleted. No justification needed.

Public or confidential: your choice

You write your testimony in your own words. The system then shows you a short, anonymised summary: no name, no project title, no employer, no identifying detail. That summary is the only thing that could ever appear publicly, and only if you choose Say it loud.

If you choose Keep it quiet, nothing is published, ever. Your testimony stays in the FSE's confidential monitoring and is counted in the statistics: silenced stories still weigh.

Who can read your testimony

Your full testimony is read by the FSE team only, for review and validation. No national guild, no producer, no broadcaster, no third party has access to it.

Your contact details, if you left any, are stored in a separate record. They are never published, never shared, and only used to come back to you about your own testimony — to clarify a detail or offer support.

Why AI, and what it does with your words

We need to catalogue the possible incidents, and we don't have the manpower to do it manually. Your report is sent to an AI system — Claude, provided by Anthropic — to be analysed: the right boxes are checked against our analytical framework (type of report, dimension, patterns, profile concerned), and the data comes back to the FSE, anonymised if you prefer.

What this means for you:

  • Your text is never used to train the AI. Anthropic is contractually prohibited from doing so.
  • It is deleted from Anthropic's systems within 30 days. Nothing stays there.
  • The processing is covered by a data processing agreement with Anthropic's European entity, under the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
  • The AI suggests, it does not decide. An FSE expert reviews every classification before anything is published.

Where your data lives

Everything is stored on servers operated by Infomaniak in Geneva, Switzerland — an independent, Swiss-owned company, certified ISO 27001, that belongs to no American or Chinese cloud group. Switzerland is recognised by the European Commission as providing a level of data protection equivalent to the EU's.

In practice: no non-European authority can request access to our data, and no third party can mine it. The FSE chose this hosting deliberately, for that reason.

Your rights, without paperwork

You may ask at any time to read, correct or delete your testimony and your contact details. Write to tracker@righttowrite.eu — a single email is enough, no form, no justification.

The full legal notice, including the legal bases of processing and the details of our processors, is in our GDPR & Privacy page.
